A man wanted by Grambling State University Police was arrested on numerous charges following a traffic stop near Ruston.

Arthur Doakes III, 44, of Ruston, was arrested May 30 after he fled on foot from a Grambling Police traffic stop.

Doakes was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by GPD at about 4 a.m. on U.S. Hwy. 80 west of South Barnett Springs Avenue.

According to an officer’s report, Doakes left the vehicle and ran through a field with officers in pursuit. Doakes threw down a clear plastic bag later determined to contain about 18 grams of suspected marijuana.

An officer deployed a Taser at Doakes, who continued to run. He eventually stopped and surrendered.

Doakes was booked into the Lincoln Parish Center for resisting an officer by flight, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice, and on warrants from GSU Police for hit and run, driving under suspension, and failure to report an accident.
