Texas man booked for gun, marijuana

Last week, Louisiana State Police nabbed a driver who was pulled over for following too closely on Interstate 20.

On June 10, state troopers arrested Grand Prairie resident Bennie Eugene Banks, 26, for possessing a handgun while in possession of a prohibited narcotic and marijuana with the intent to distribute.

After being observed following an SUV at a hazardous distance, Banks was pulled over on I-20 eastbound close to milepost 98. Troopers detected the smell of marijuana emanating from Banks’ body and vehicle.

There was a marijuana cigarette in the center console and a 9mm handgun in the glove box. A bag containing roughly 26 grams of marijuana was discovered in Banks’ pants during a search.

The gun that was discovered in the rental car was unknown to Banks. The Lincoln Parish Detention Center received his booking.

A law enforcement organization has made this material available to the public. Until proven guilty in a court of law, people named or depicted in photos or videos as suspects in a criminal investigation, or who are detained and accused of a crime, are deemed innocent.
