Stone County schools briefly locked down after off-campus domestic dispute

Following the response of law enforcement to a domestic disturbance involving a student’s parents in Stone County, the campuses of Mountain View and Timbo schools were briefly placed under lockdown Thursday morning, according to authorities.

According to Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long, the lockdown, which started at approximately 10:15 a.m., was implemented as a precaution until the conflict was resolved off campus. The child was at school at the time, according to officials, but there was no threat to the school community.

According to Long, the action was taken in cooperation with the Mountain View Police Department and Mountain View School Resource Police to guarantee the security and protection of all employees and students.

Deputies conducted an investigation and found no threat to students or employees. Once law enforcement verified it was safe to continue regular activities, the lockdown was lifted.

In a statement, Long stated that there was never an active threat to the school community and that student safety is still the department’s top priority. He gave school police and city cops credit for their prompt and courteous reaction.
