Following a brief pursuit on Saturday morning, Ruston Police retrieved two stolen cars and multiple firearms, and they are still looking for potential suspects in the case.
According to RPD, the department was notified at approximately 6:50 a.m. that a Kia Sportage that had been stolen in West Monroe might have been in Ruston. To look for the car, an officer arrived at the designated spot. The stolen Kia Sportage and a Toyota Camry drove off as the officer got closer. Before going on a different street, the officer noticed a Kia passenger gesture to the Toyota.
The Kia fled at a high pace when the officer tried to stop it in the 1100 block of Cornell Avenue. The Kia was found in an empty field in the 1100 block of East Line Avenue at the conclusion of the brief pursuit. As the Kia proceeded to roll into the tree line, two occupants escaped on foot.
RPD swiftly set up a perimeter and retrieved the Kia Sportage with assistance from the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, a short barrel rifle and a fully loaded Smith & Wesson pistol in.40 caliber were found.
After conducting a thorough search of the area, officers went back to the spot where the stolen Toyota and Kia were initially spotted. The Toyota had returned and was found by the officers. Verification of the Toyota’s VIN revealed that it had been reported stolen in Dallas, Texas.
One of the people who ran away from the stolen Kia was identified by the police, and he was found and arrested close to the Toyota. The name of the suspect was not immediately known.
Officers are still looking for more suspects in this case, thus the investigation is still ongoing. Contact the Ruston Police Department at 318-255-4141 if you have any information.
The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and community members who helped with the inquiry were praised by RPD in a statement. According to the statement, we can keep creating a safer Ruston by working together and fostering solid relationships between the people and law enforcement.
