Reel Queer Film Festival returns to Little Rock Aug. 21-24

REEL QUEER FILM FESTIVAL, August 21–24, Thursday–Sunday. Theater Ron Robinson. $35 to $125.

The Reel Queer Film Festival (formerly Kaleidoscope) is back in Little Rock in August with an amazing lineup of LGBTQ-focused screenings and special events. It is now in its eleventh year, but just its second under the new name. According to Deadline, I’m probably the most excited about Fucktoys, a good-taste-defying comedy about a superstitious sex worker who must travel through sex parties, strip clubs, and perverts in order to reverse the hex that has been placed upon her, out of the dozens of films that are scheduled. When Fucktoys won the Special Jury Award for a Multi-Hyphenate at SXSW, judges praised the film’s director, writer, and star, Annapurna Sriram, as a visionary force and a unique artist whose work is as bold as it is unique. You’re in luck because she will be present for a Q&A at Reel Queer. The festival will also feature the feature films Queens of Drama, Sauna, Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, Summer’s Camera, Assembly, and Plainclothes, whose director is Carmen Emmi. As an aside, don’t miss Reel Queer’s second annual pitch competition, when filmmakers showcase their ideal film proposals in real time to compete for funding and mentorship. Tickets are available atreelqueerfilm.org.
