Tenacious
Arkansas Times
publisher
Alan Leveritt
, who moonlights as a tomato farmer/rabbit breeder on his farm in north Pulaski County, will have his first Edwards Food Giant heirloom drop of the year this weekend.
In Central Arkansas tomato circles, Leveritt is known for his Carbon, Goldie, Cherokee Purple and Ananas Noire heirloom varieties (and his rugged good looks). His tomatoes are grown naturally, free of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. He grows about 4,000 pounds every year, and he wrote a column about his farming experiences that scored him
an AAN Award from the Association of Alternative Newsmedia in 2024
.
A couple hundred pounds of his
Carbon and Goldie varieties
, along with a mixed selection of cherry tomatoes, will be available at the Edwards Food Giant at 7507 Cantrell Road in the Tanglewood Shopping Center first thing Saturday morning (Edwards opens at 7 a.m.). Leveritt is on important
Arkansas Times
business on Saturday, so he will not be at the Hillcrest Farmers Market this weekend.
