Until the 1960s, Doug McGuire served as Trinity Methodist Church’s senior minister. He was a wonderful man. He obtained his private pilot’s license after retiring. I used to spend hours in the air with Doug years ago. Doug has already received his award. He was full of sayings from preachers. He gave good counsel. “Always enter the pulpit with a full heart and an empty bladder,” he said. Additionally, avoid reversing them! Additionally, he stated that a sermon is worth repeating if it is worth preaching once. Does that apply to these pieces, I wonder?
In other words.
This master took a dog on a safari, but the dog got lost while chasing butterflies. Then he caught a glimpse of a lion approaching him quietly and skulking to attack. Nearby, he noticed a heap of bones. The dog began nibbling on a bone while pretending not to see the lion. “Boy, the lion sure tasted good!” he yelled. The lion fled after concluding that the dog must be really fierce.
However, a monkey observed everything. After pursuing the lion, he confronted him with the truth. The lion turned back to devour the dog in a fit of rage. With the intention of seeing everything happen in front of him, the monkey leaped on the lion’s back. When the astute dog realized what had happened, it snatched up another bone and yelled, “Where is that dumb monkey?” By now, he ought to have brought me another lion!
The narrative is fantastic. Don’t you wish you had that dog’s quick wit and intelligence? Yes, you do! When someone zings you at work, you think about it all night long until you eventually come up with a possible response. Alternatively, you may stew over a disagreement until you eventually consider what you ought to have said.
When someone asks for my expertise or guidance in my field of business, I want to be reassuring and godly. I am frequently neither, and I keep switching things around until I think of a better way to address someone’s query or issue.
The majority of us wish we could think more quickly and use the appropriate term when needed.
How many of us read this story and reasoned that perhaps it would be preferable to avoid becoming lost in the first place? That, I believe, was the main idea.
