Police record uneventful festival

The Louisiana Peach Festival ran smoothly Saturday as far as safety and crime issues, according to the Ruston Police Department.

RPD Lieutenant Kayla Loyd said very few issues required police or fire department personnel despite an assessment that more people attended the annual event this year.

“It went very smoothly,” Loyd said, “with no need for police intervention and very few medical calls.”

Loyd said the perception was that more people attended the festival this year as compared to last year but with no significant issues.

However, elsewhere in the city this weekend, thieve stole two vehicles and attempted to steal a third.

Loyd said an orange Dodge Charger was stolen between midnight and 2:00 a.m. Friday morning and a white Mercury Grand Marquis was stolen early Sunday morning.

The Mercury was recovered in the area of Water Tank Road just outside Ruston but the Charger is still missing.

Thieves attempted to take an another vehicle from an apartment complex on Timberline Court but were unsuccessful in getting it started, Loyd said.

Another vehicle was burglarized on East California Avenue this weekend with a small amount of cash taken.

Ruston Police have repeatedly pleaded with residents to take valuables, including ignition keys, and lock their vehicles when unattended.
