Obituary: Shelby Joe Canard

On August 18, 2025, Shelby Joe Canard, 77, died in the Stone County Medical Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. Joe and Imogene Canard welcomed Shelby into the world on October 11, 1947, in Batesville, Arkansas.

Shelby proudly belonged to the First Assembly of God Church and was a devout Christian. Shelby was appreciative of his church family’s assistance and encouragement, particularly in recent years.

Shelby served in the US Army from 1967 to 1969 and was stationed in Germany. He received an E5 Ranking and an honorable discharge from the service. Shelby met Brenda Henderson, the love of his life, when he returned from the Army. They were married in 1971 and had a meaningful 54-year marriage.

They have a cherished daughter named Natalie Jo Canard together. As a father, Shelby was incredibly proud. Earlier this year, the family experienced tragedy when their cherished daughter Natalie passed away too soon. Shelby and Brenda were particularly devastated by this loss. throughout particular, Shelby enjoyed humor throughout his life and loved people. Shelby was quick-witted and had a sense of humor that could light up a whole room. He had a kind heart and was a gentle giant.

For the majority of his career, Shelby was employed as a superintendent at a chicken facility. Cooking was one of Shelby’s favorite pastimes. One of his favorite things to do was to get together with family and friends around the kitchen table and eat a home-cooked meal. Shelby also enjoyed fishing, hunting, particularly deer and squirrels, and crafting knives.

His daughter, Natalie Jo Canard, and his parents, Joe and Imogene Canard, passed away before him.

His wife Brenda, sister Norene Rhodes, brother-in-law Everett Rhodes, and niece Nikki Beecham, from East Peoria, Illinois, are left to honor his memory.

Brother Mike Carroll and Brother Joseph Blake will officiate Shelby’s memorial service on Saturday, August 23 at 10:00 am at the First Assembly of God Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Please think about making a donation to First Assembly of God Church in place of flowers.
