On August 7, 2025, Nancy Sheffield Baxter, 81, of Batesville, Arkansas, died quietly at home.
Her grandparents, Harvey and Vada Sheffield, formally adopted her after she was born in Batesville on July 29, 1944, to Catherine Pence and Dale Sheffield.
She graduated from Batesville High School in 1962 and Arkansas State College (University) in 1964 with an Associate’s degree in business. She spent several years in the business world at Pro-Dentec, Lennox Quality Heat and Air, Arkansas College (Lyon), and White Rodgers.
Being a devout Baptist, Nancy loved to spend time with her loved ones and was involved in all of her grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed genealogy research, traveling, particularly to California and Oklahoma, and making photo books for her loved ones. Nancy was a huge lover of Alan Jackson and Elvis Presley and was famous for constantly decorating and celebrating birthdays and holidays to make her loved ones feel extra special.
Her grandchildren, Paige Bradley, Beau Baxter, Blaine Baxter, and Bella Baxter, all of whom reside in Batesville, as well as her son Steve Baxter and wife Melissa are among the survivors. Along with her devoted friends, Ginger, Sugar, and Buddy, she also leaves behind a large number of family members and friends.
Her parents, grandparents, one sister, Bernice Woods (Ken), two brothers, R.L. Sheffield (Dot) and H.T. Sheffield (Geneva), and daughter, Crystal Baxter Bradley, all passed away before her.
Jason Clark, Zach Witt, Richard Fraiser, Mike Foster, Calvin Fairchild, Mike Foree, Staci Albert, Joshua Janiak, Linda Wood, Becky Wood, Kenneth Rorie, Ladene Bray, and the Batesville Class of 1962 were honored pallbearers.
Her cousin, Connie Painter and husband Richard, Ted and Kathy Hyslip, Keith Davis, Louann Gregory, Troy and Mary Looney, Kim and Melanie Looney and family, Johnnie Moore and family, Joeann Baxter and family, Eddie Witt and family, WRMC, and Gentiva Hospice Care are all acknowledged and especially thanked by the Baxter family.
The Roller-Crouch Funeral Home will host memorial services on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Cremains will be buried privately at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Before the ceremony on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, there will be a visitation at the funeral home from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
