Mary Lou Wren, 92, of Newport, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Newport. She was born September 26, 1932, to Willie Joe and Ruby Rosetta (Neal) Wren. A devoted member of Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, Mrs. Wren was known for her loving spirit and dedication to family. She cherished family fish fries, loved cooking, fixing hair, and was always ready with a warm iron to press everyone’s clothes. Her kindness, strength, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mary Lou leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and sweet memories shared with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Othell Lassiter, one son, Gregory Wren, two brothers, Robert Wren, John Wren, two sisters, Irma Landrum, Ora Lee Wren, one grandson, Rosheik Wren, one great-grandson Amika Jones, Jr., and one great-great-grandson, Noah Harris.
Mrs. Wren is survived by three sons: Hubert Wren of Newport, Gerald Wren of Minnesota, Calvin Wren and wife Viola of Conway, five daughters: Valorie Wren of Newport, Pamela Gladney of Newport, Carla Wren of Pine Bluff, Laura Pruitt of Newport, Tanisha Gordon of Newport, one special grandson; Darvail Wren of Newport, three brothers: Bobby Joe Wren of Newport, Edmond Wren of Newport, Gene Wren of Newport, one sister; Joella Sain and husband Johnny of Illinois, 46 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren, and two special friends; Georgetta Stubblefield and Gracie Corley, and her protector, Derrick Ratliff.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at The Greater Morning Star Baptist Church with internment in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. Friday at the Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.
