On August 1, 2025, Marion Winfred Smotherman, 85, of Oil Trough, departed from this world. Leon and Winnie (Davidson) Smotherman welcomed him into the world on March 10, 1940, in Newport, Arkansas.

Marion was a lifetime baseball lover who never missed an opportunity to support his club, the St. Louis Cardinals in particular. As the Mayor of Oil Trough, he worked diligently to promote and improve the town he loved, and he was a proud and committed member of his community.

Being outside, enjoying the beauty of nature, and spending time with loved ones were all simple pleasures for him. Everyone who knew Marion was impacted for a long time by his kind disposition, leadership, and sincere love for people.

As a loyal fan, a beloved family guy, and a dedicated public worker, he will be cherished and sorely missed.

His parents, Leon and Winnie Smotherman, passed away before him.

In addition to his wife, Judy Smotherman, who lives at home, he has three grandchildren: Emma, Lauren, and Tessa Smotherman; his brother, Danny Smotherman, who lives in Los Angeles, California; his sister, Sue (Smotherman) Reed, who lives in Los Angeles, California; and his son, Jody Smotherman (Jami (Reed) Smotherman).

Shane Sisk, Randy Sisk, Kenny Kramer, Tadpole Franks, Rick Fuller, and David Pankey are honored to be pallbearers. Dr. Caleb Oster, Jamie Goyne, and Martin Steward are honorary pallbearers.

Reverend Ronnie Toon will officiate the service at White River Baptist Church in Oil Trough on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. The hours of visitation will be from 1:00 to the time of service. Maple Springs Cemetery will serve as the last resting place.
