Born on May 31, 1928, Lester Pop Vernon Hooker was a Baptist who died at the age of 97 at his Harrisburg, Arkansas, home as his family was by his side.

Along with a number of nieces and nephews, there are also four great-grandchildren: Landen, Anna Kate, Thomas, and Camreigh Curly Sue. Lou Dobbins, his eleven-year companion, also survives him.
