Obituary: James B. (Jim) Scroggins

On August 1, 2025, James B. (Jim) Scroggins, 87, of Marcella, passed away in Batesville, Arkansas, to be with his Heavenly Father. Fleet and Edna Scroggins welcomed him into the world on August 6, 1937.

Following graduation, Jima and Faye celebrated 68 years of marriage on August 4, 1956. He served as a cherished spouse, father, friend, foster parent, and guardian.

Before returning to Marcella to launch his own company, Scroggins Concrete, he spent 12 years working at John Deere Plow Works in Moline, Illinois. Originally cattle farmers, Jim and Faye later ran a four-house poultry business. In 1989, they were chosen as Stone County’s Farm Family of the Year.

Jim was the local constable and played a key role in the founding of the Melrose Fire Department, where he spent many years as Fire Chief. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the Cattleman’s Association, and the president of the Pleasant Grove Water Association board.

As long as his health permitted, Jim was active and occupied, and he liked his job. After that, he enjoyed talking about the past while daydreaming. He used to be able to enjoy homemade ice cream and catfish with the best of them. He could typically be there at any time and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He genuinely lived life to the fullest.

A number of nieces, nephews, friends, and family members are among the survivors, along with his son Shannon Scroggins (Teresa) of Marcella, daughter Sherry Waters (Raymond) of Batesville, and son Jerry Scroggins (Karen) of Malvern; grandchildren J.J., Jordan, and Jayden Scroggins, Dacen Waters, Spencer Connor, and Rand Scroggins.

Jim’s wife, parents, brothers John and Sammy Scroggins, and a good friend, Ken Gunderson, all passed away before him.

Brother Jerry Scroggins, with assistance from Brother Brian Garrett and Brother Gary Don Fletcher, will preside at a celebration of life on Saturday, August 9 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

We would especially like to thank Bridgett Wilson and Kayla Dubreville, the compassionate hospice nurses.

Willis Funeral Service in Batesville, Arkansas made the arrangements.
