Obituary: Edwin Leon Baker

On July 24, 2025, Edwin Leon Baker, 82, of Mountain View, Arkansas, died at Stone County Medical Center. Edwin Earnest Baker and Nannie Leona Reeves welcomed him into the world on May 12, 1943, in Hobart, Oklahoma.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was Edwin’s faithful church. He frequently wore his distinctive Army cap while serving with pride in the US Army. Edwin worked as a flea market attendant and a convenience store cashier during his lifetime. He was most proud of his work at a boys’ home for young men with developmental disabilities, nevertheless, where he had a long-lasting influence.

Genealogy was one of Edwin’s main interests. He was particularly delighted of finding a distant relation to Elvis Presley and frequently stayed up late studying family history. He was also fascinated by the legends and folklore of the famous UFO encounter and Roswell, New Mexico.

Edwin loved music of all genres, spending time with friends and family, and most of all, his faith. He was well-known for being gregarious and curious, and he loved to visit with church missionaries. He was adored and will be missed terribly.

His parents, Edwin Baker and Nannie Reeves, passed away before him.

Gina Tipton of Oklahoma, Rebecca Taylor of Arkansas, Edwin Scott of Illinois, Ladonna Messenger of Illinois, and Alaina Earnest of Arizona are his five children. Debbie Lewis, his 12-year caregiver, as well as a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends, survive him.

On Monday, August 4, 2025, between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., there will be a visitation at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mountain View, Arkansas. President Eric Orton will preside over a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. The Mountain View Historic Cemetery will be the site of the burial.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are the ones who carry the pall.

Mountain View Funeral Service is in charge of making funeral arrangements.
