Obituary: Barbara Gail Johnson Sandefur

We have gathered here today to commemorate the life of Barbara Gail Johnson Sandefur, a magnificent woman. A devoted servant of Yeshua, a mother, a sister, a great-grandmother, a wife, and a mother.

Unwavering commitment and quiet strength characterized Barbara. Her attitude never wavered, even as she dealt with the difficulties of Parkinson’s and dementia in her final years. As it always had, her love remained intense, full, and unwavering.

Each of her seven children, of whom she was a proud mother, carries a part of her wisdom and heart. As she received 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren into her arms over the years, her love grew even more, and she was incredibly devoted to them all. Being with her family, listening to their laughing, seeing their lives blossom, and praying for each and every one of them was the greatest source of her happiness.

Barbara’s life was built on her religion. In addition to her name, she lived for Yeshua in every breath, deed of kindness, and lesson taught. Her Bible was scuffed from usage, not age. Studying the Bible with her younger sister, Rebecca Richardson, was one of her favorite things to do. They were united by their love of the Word, which illuminated even the darkest moments.

Barbara didn’t look for attention. She led a modest, graceful, and quietly brave life. Her faith was unwavering, her heart was giving, and her wisdom was profound. She taught us that genuine, enduring love is what keeps us going, that family is a blessing to be treasured, and that true strength comes from faith.

We cling to her memories and the legacy she leaves behind as we bid her farewell today. We will carry her faith in our lives, her love in our hearts, and her prayers in our spirits. Knowing that she is now healed and at peace in the arms of her Savior and reunited with lost loved ones gives us hope even as we grieve.

A few of us had the opportunity to see her faith being as strong as ever just before she passed away, despite her tired state, when she abruptly declared, “I know something that you all should know.” I am aware of my Savior! Furthermore, I’m not afraid at all.

Her main life objective was to witness her family embrace Yahweh’s love.

Mama, get plenty of rest. The race was run by you. You maintained your faith. And through all of us, your love will endure.
