in the age of 84, Alfred (Alpo) Roscoe Howard of Newport, Arkansas, died quietly in his Midway home on Friday, July 25, 2025. Elzie Marshall and Clara (Bible) Howard were his parents, and he was born on February 9, 1941.
Alfred attended Newport High School and graduated. On December 11, 1961, he wed Miss Sara June Bible, the joy of his life, and the two have been together for sixty-three amazing years.
Alfred started working when he was just 13 years old and kept working until 2015, when he finally retired. He spent seventy-four years as an auto technician and salesman. He frequently brought his passion for automobiles home with him during this period, frequently to his own garage. Alfred loved hunting, playing cards, and racing stock cars. He won a lot of awards. He particularly enjoyed visiting and conversing with friends and relatives. Alfred loved to share his wonderful stories about his cherished family and friends with everyone, and he had never met a stranger.
Alfred’s parents, sister, Freda May Tubbs, and brothers, C.R. and Shelley Howard, died before him.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah June Howard, of the house; two sons, Kenneth Richard Howard of Salem and Alfred Todd Howard of Midway; two daughters, Wendy Goodon of Jonesboro and Lisa Clark of Grubbs; nine grandchildren, Cody Jamison Howard, Joshua James Goodon, Cassidy Alexis Biggers, Destiny Renee Boatman, Zachary Wade Jones, and Blake E. Howard; thirteen grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.
Mr. Llano Robinson will preside over Alfred’s funeral services, which will take place in Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The burial will take place at Balch-Johnston Cemetery. On Wednesday morning, friends are welcome to stop by the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Adam Boatman, Josh Goodon, Troy Hill, Cody Howard, Zack Jones, and Blake Howard are honored to be pallbearers. Jon McCool, Mitch Burkhart, and Steven Duffy are honorary pallbearers.
The Howard family appreciates everyone’s prayers and well wishes. We would especially like to thank St. Bernard’s Hospice and their staff for their compassion and support of the Howard family.
