There were two car accidents on I-20 Sunday night that delayed traffic for eastbound drivers.

The first incident, a single vehicle crash, happened shortly after 5 p.m., according to David Wells, director of EMS for the Ruston Fire Department.

“An 18-wheeler box truck rolled over off the side of the road way eastbound on I-20, resulting in a single vehicle MVC,” Wells said.

Two people were taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center, Wells said. Neither person’s status was made public.

According to Wells, a second incident happened when traffic was congested following the first collision.

“I will assume that the cars stopped on I-20 due to the backup from the first accident, which caused a second accident because the traffic was back up more than a mile,” Wells said.

According to Wells, one of the cars had significant damage to the back, while another had significant damage to the front. Two of the three people who received on-scene treatment were taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center.

According to a Louisiana State Police representative, more information regarding the cause of the initial 18-wheeler box truck accident is unknown at this time because the event report won’t be finished until later this week.

Wells did attest that neither crash’s victims required being pulled from their cars.

According to Wells, the rescue vehicle did not need to cut or yank anyone out of their vehicles.
