A guy from Washington County has entered a not guilty plea to capital murder charges after being charged with the July killings of two persons at Devil’s Den State Park.
Andrew James McGann, 28, was arraigned at the Washington County Detention Center on Thursday and entered his plea. He is accused with two counts of capital murder in connection with the stabbing murders of Prairie Grove residents Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41.
McGann’s next hearing was scheduled for November 14 by Judge Joanna Taylor. On August 13, the court issued an order prohibiting the use of recording devices in the courtroom. McGann is still being jailed without bond and is prohibited from communicating with the victim’s relatives.
Because of the case’s widespread publicity, prosecutors Brandon Carter told Northwest Arkansas news organization KNWA that McGann shown no emotion at the hearing and anticipates a gag order. The state has not ruled out pursuing the death penalty, according to Carter.
According to Arkansas State Police, McGann admitted to the murders and his DNA was found at the scene of the crime. Investigators think it was a random strike.
On July 26, authorities claimed, a hiker discovered two fatalities on a park trail, escorted two girls away from the scene, and then dialed 911. A man with blood on his face was seen driving out of the park in a black Kia Stinger, according to witnesses.
Both individuals died from stab wounds, according to an autopsy. When police spotted McGann’s car at a Springdale company on July 30, they claim he had injuries on his hands. Investigators said they discovered what looked like blood inside the car.
