The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a local man Sunday after another man was shot four times in a fight Saturday.
Nicolas Gutierrez-Hernandez, 25, was charged with attempted second degree murder after he reportedly confessed to firing shots from a truck leaving the scene of the incident.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in a mobile home park on Frazier Road Saturday to learn one man had been shot four times after a fight involving several individuals. The victim was taken to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center where he was listed in critical but stable condition, according to an investigator’s report.
While processing the crime scene, five spent .40 caliber cartridge casings and two projectiles were recovered.
Witnesses said someone fired gunshots from a white truck as it fled the scene immediately after the fight.
Another man suffering from a head wound later arrived at the hospital in a white truck. His injury was reportedly caused by a broken bottle at the fight. A search of the truck bed located three spent .40 caliber cartridge casings. The name of a suspect was developed but could not be located Saturday.
On Sunday, the named suspect drove himself to the Ruston Police Department to turn himself in. He was taken to the sheriff’s office and interviewed by LPSO detectives.
Gutierrez-Hernandez said he shot nine times from the truck as it was leaving the scene. He said he then went to a friend’s residence for the night. A search of his vehicle located a .40 caliber pistol. Gutierrez-Hernandez said it was the weapon he used during the shooting.
Gutierrez-Hernandez was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center with bail set at $600,000.
