A tip about a damaged black Mustang led to the seizure of more than 1,200 grams of suspected methamphetamine and two arrests in Cave City earlier this month, Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell announced on Thursday.
On July 8, agents with the Third Judicial Drug Task Force and the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office received information about a black Ford Mustang, with front-end and windshield damage, transporting illegal narcotics through Cave City. The information was relayed to Cave City Police Lt. Trent Milligan and Officer Dalton Hooker.
Around 8:03 p.m., Hooker spotted the suspected vehicle leaving First Community Bank and turning onto Main Street. He conducted a traffic stop at 313 N. Main St., where he found the car was registered to Mcabe Keller West, 47, of Hardy, who was in the vehicle along with passenger Melissa Rae Blaskiewicz, 44, of Mammoth Spring.
Lt. Milligan and his K-9 partner, Bandit, a narcotics detection dog, assisted at the scene. After both occupants exited the vehicle, Bandit conducted a sniff, leading to a search. Officers recovered approximately 1,279 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
West and Blaskiewicz were arrested and transported to the Sharp County Detention Center. Both were issued a $250,000 cash or professional bond.
Sheriff Russell praised the interagency cooperation, stating, “We would like to thank the Cave City Police Department and K-9 Bandit for their assistance in taking illegal narcotics off the streets of Sharp County.”
