As part of a continuous effort to assure compliance with state registration requirements, Independence County law enforcement agencies recently finished a series of compliance checks on registered sex offenders.
During Operation Fun in the Sun, the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, in collaboration with the Batesville Police Department and the Arkansas Department of Corrections Division of Community Corrections, checked 72 registered offenders.
Four are being investigated for potential charges, 19 had minor infractions, and 42 were deemed to be in complete conformity with state legislation. In the upcoming days, eight more compliance inspections need to be finished.
During the checks, officers confirmed job details, current residence addresses, and other requirements set down by the state. The following violations were found: failing to update driver’s licenses, failing to report social media accounts, failing to update employment information, failing to register current residences, and failing to comply with residency limitations.
According to a statement from the partnering agencies, community safety depends on ensuring adherence to these regulations. In order to hold criminals accountable, these checks act as a reminder as well as an enforcement tool.
The agencies stated that in order to improve public safety and make sure registered offenders fulfill all legal requirements, they will keep performing recurring compliance inspections.
