Ruston Police detained a motorist for multiple drug and handgun charges after stopping a car for failing to indicate a turn.

After a traffic check and the discovery of a stolen shotgun in the car, Mitchell Lacurtis White, 57, of Ruston, was taken into custody at around 4 a.m. on June 22.

Officers saw the shotgun behind the front seat when White got out of the car. Clothes and other objects partially obscured the pistol. “You mean the pellet gun?” was White’s response when he denied that a shotgun was in the truck.

White screamed, “You hit me,” as he fell to the ground after an officer put a hand on his shoulder and instructed him to move to the front of the patrol car. According to an officer’s report, White caused a commotion by staying on the ground for around ten minutes.

White complained of neck pain and was taken to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center after the Ruston Ambulance Service was dispatched to the site.

According to a review of the records, White was a convicted felon who was not allowed to own guns, and the shotgun was stolen in Ruston.

White was checked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center after being released from the hospital. Staff at the correctional facility inspected White’s shoes and discovered bags of synthetic marijuana and suspected methamphetamine.

Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, introduction of methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana into a correctional facility, possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance are among the charges against While.

White was granted $170,000 bail.
