When a man and woman were discovered dead on a walking trail in Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday, an afternoon hike was transformed into a crime scene. This led to a thorough homicide investigation and a manhunt for an unidentified suspect.
According to Arkansas State Police, two bodies were found along a trail on July 26 at around 2:40 p.m., prompting officers to be called to the Washington County park. At the scene, the victims—a 41-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man—were declared dead.
To ascertain the reason and method of death, their bodies were taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.
The matter is being handled as a double homicide by the organization’s Criminal Investigation Division. According to investigators, the suspect is a white man dressed in weightlifting gloves, a dark tank top, and dark shorts. He was seen driving a black four-door sedan with electrical tape or ducting covering the license plate, which may have been a Mazda.
Shortly after the murders, the car was spotted driving toward a park exit and might have been on Arkansas Highway 170 or Highway 220 close to the park.
There is still a significant police presence in the region. Police stated that they are following up on every lead as the investigation continues.
Please call Arkansas State Police Troop L at (479) 751-6663 if you know anything about the suspect or his whereabouts.
Sarah Sanders, the governor of Arkansas, issued a statement on Saturday night.
Governor Sanders stated, “We are deeply saddened by the terrible news that came out of Devil’s Den State Park today and are working closely with State Police and the Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism as they try to capture the suspect.” We know that law enforcement will not stop until the offender is apprehended, and we are praying for the victims’ friends and family.
As of Sunday morning, there had been no arrests.
