Louisiana’s Baton Rouge. The city of Alexandria, the city of Carencro, the city of Grambling, the town of Sterlington, and the Jefferson Westbank are the five new Community Affiliates that KLB has added to its network of community improvement organizations. The 44 Community Affiliates in KLB’s statewide network are made up of committed local leaders who put out great effort to reduce trash and litter, enhance recycling, and enhance public areas.
According to Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, these localities are serving as role models for the rest of Louisiana. They take pride in their community and do not want litter to negatively affect the local business, environment, or the standard of living of its residents. This year, I’m excited to see what these Keep Louisiana Beautiful Affiliates can achieve. I appreciate you taking the lead in the fight against litter.
Continue grambling. Representative DeVaria Ponton of the Grambling City Council led the Beautiful’s establishment.
As Council Representative DeVaria Ponton put it, “Being an Affiliate of Keep Louisiana Beautiful is more than just a commitment; it’s a community promise to take pride in our city, stop litter at its source, and transform public spaces into places of beauty, health, and hope.” We demonstrate our concern for our neighborhoods, our neighbors, and the future we are creating in Grambling by getting our hands dirty together! We are dedicated to maintaining the beauty of our ancient city, Grambling!
The five organizations had to create a steering committee, choose a coordinator or point of contact, decide on the organizational structure and governing body, develop a mission statement and logo, participate in KLB training sessions, carry out a Community Assessment and Litter Survey, develop a one-year plan, set a budget, and declare their Affiliate status in order to succeed in achieving membership.
According to Cabell Mouton, Director of Community Engagement and Affiliate Services, “Our Affiliate network is essential to furthering Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s mission to promote cleaner, greener communities throughout the state.” Five new Community Affiliates have joined the network, and we are thrilled to see what an influence they will have on their local communities.
The Community Affiliate network made a concerted effort to beautify and clean up Louisiana in 2023–2024. These are a few of their achievements:
- Removed 67,560 cigarette butts
- Collected 1.3 million pounds of recycling
- Removed 12,983 pounds of litter from waterways
- Removed 908,547 pounds of litter at land-based cleanups
This fall, the 2024–2025 outcome data will be released in a detailed report.
Both cities and universities are now able to submit new Affiliate inquiries to KLB. Organizations can use the Keep Louisiana BeautifulBecome an Affiliate portal to submit an inquiry form.
