The Lincoln Parish School District is pleased to report that Charity Boney, a Hillcrest Elementary first-grader, placed second globally in the 2025 Braille Challenge’s Apprentice Division!
Charity went to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, to participate in the Braille Challenge Finals. She is now the second-best braille student in her division globally, which is an astounding accomplishment for a young student and a huge source of pride for her town, school, and family.
For students who are blind or visually challenged, the Braille Challenge Finals is the only academic competition of its kind in North America and is expanding globally. The event, which was started by the Braille Institute in 2000, promotes students to hone their braille literacy abilities.
Charity’s success was all the more remarkable because the finals gathered together the world’s best young braille writers and readers.
