In north central Arkansas, a manhunt that lasted about a week is over.
Following a manhunt that began on Monday, August 4, Calico Rock resident Stephan Richard Whaples, 36, was taken into custody at the Stone County Jail early on Sunday morning. He will be charged with two crimes, methamphetamine possession and drug paraphernalia possession, in addition to a number of misdemeanors, such as repeated traffic infractions and foot running.
The Izard County Sheriff’s Office reports that early last week, Whaples escaped from police twice in less than twenty-four hours. He allegedly fled from an Arkansas State Police officer on Dolph Road on August 3. At the time, an unsuccessful search was conducted in the area.
Deputies responded to a report of Whaples being seen in the 1500 block of West Crossroads at approximately 3:15 a.m. the next day. He allegedly ran away once more before deputies arrived. The search was aided by the Arkansas Department of Corrections canine squad.
Additionally, Whaples was wanted for violating his parole.
