Manhunt underway in Izard County

Published On:

A man who escaped from police twice in less than twenty-four hours is being sought by Izard County authorities.

According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, Stephen Whaples, 36, of Calico Rock, initially escaped on foot from an Arkansas State Police officer on Dolph Road on Sunday afternoon. An area search proved fruitless.

Deputies were summoned to the 1500 block of West Crossroads at around 3:15 a.m. on Monday following a complaint of Whaples being spotted nearby. Before deputies could arrive, he apparently ran away on foot once more.

The dog team from the Arkansas Department of Corrections was called in to help. Monday morning, the hunt is still going on.

Whaples is wanted for violating his parole.

The public is being warned by officials not to approach Whaples if they see him. Anyone who knows where he is is asked to call 911 or the Izard County Sheriff’s Office at 870-368-4203.
