Obituary: Harold Lee Bowles

On August 12, 2025, Harold Lee Bowles, 81, died in the company of his loved ones at The Blossoms Nursing Home in Mountain View, Arkansas. On July 23, 1944, Harold was born in Janesville, Iowa, to Leona and Earl Bowles, Jr.

Harold started his schooling at Janesville Consolidated School, where he met his future wife of 62 years, Janice Jones, in the first grade. After dating throughout high school and graduating in 1962, they were married on August 11, 1963, at the Janesville United Methodist Church. Lynette and Brent, Harold and Janice’s two children, were a blessing.

In Charleston, South Carolina, Harold joined the US Navy and worked as a postal clerk aboard the USS Manley. In Waterloo, Iowa, Harold spent thirty years as a Department Coordinator for John Deere before retiring in 1996.

Harold was involved in a number of volunteer organizations, including the American Legion, the Lions Club, the Jaycees, the Janesville City Council, the SnoHawks Snowmobile Club, and the Janesville Fire Department as its Fire Chief.

Harold spent his entire life hunting and fishing. He and his family had a number of unforgettable fishing excursions in Canada. He took a trip to Amsterdam, Hawaii, and Alaska with Janice.Harold and Janice retired to Unionville, Missouri, where they spent 15 years living on Lake Thunderhead and spending the winters in Pharr, Texas. They relocated to Heber Springs, Arkansas, in 2011, and have been residing in Mountain View, Arkansas, for the last five years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice Bowles; his daughter, Lynette (Gary); his brother, Raymond (Sharon); his grandchildren, Chloe, Bryce, Josie, Delaney, and Lauren; and his five great-grandchildren, Roman, Kara, Emerson, Hudson, and Dane.

On September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM, the Mountain View United Methodist Church will host a memorial ceremony. The church will receive memorial funds in instead of flowers.

Mountain View Funeral Service is in charge of making the arrangements.
