Obituary: Jerry Wayne Brown

Jerry Wayne Brown of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the age of 40. He was born on July 16, 1984, the son of Gerry Alcorn and Shirley Brown.

Mr. Brown was a 2002 graduate of Newport High School and always a proud Greyhound. During his high school career, he was a standout athlete, earning three varsity letters in football. As a determined running back, Mr. Brown was honored with both All-State and All-Conference selections.

Mr. Brown enjoyed listening to music and playing video games. He loved grilling and was known to make the best chicken wings. Mr. Brown’s love for the game never faded as he always looked forward to cheering on the San Francisco 49ers. Above all, Mr. Brown’s greatest joy in life was his family and spending time with his children.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Clemmie Sr. and Mildred Alcorn; and maternal grandparents, Freddie Lee and Weathy Brown.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Rachel (Adams) Brown, of the home; a son, Latrell Brown, of Paris, Tennessee; five daughters, Shyann Brown of Paris, Tennessee, Jazmine Brown, Jazlyn Brown, Jayla Brown, and Journi Brown, all of Newport; his step-children, Adrianna White and Thomas Willey; his father, Gerry Alcorn and wife, Charlotte, of Bono; his mother, Shirley Brown and Roy Mays, of Newport; four brothers, Fred Brown and wife, Ashli, of Newport, Quinten Alcorn and wife, Shay, of Fort Smith, Justin Brown and wife, Ashley, of Two Harbors, Minnesota, and Glenn Moore of Dallas, Texas; and three sisters, Katisha Brown and Richard Lee Cox, Jr., of Batesville, Tanya Moore of Little Rock, and Latasha Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are his aunts and uncles, Joann Johnson and husband, William Earl, of Diaz, Shurika Brown, Patsy Alcorn, Michael Alcorn and wife Mildred, Marva Alcorn, Marvin Alcorn and wife Patricia, Natasha Roddy, and Donnie Alcorn, all of Newport; Special Cousins Kala Brown, Inezia Cooley, and Jeremy Crutcher; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Antionne Alcorn officiating. Interment will be in Gum Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Josiah Matthews, Deshawn Smith, Vernon Rucker, Brian Rucker, Sherman Rucker, and Jeremy Jarrett. Honorary pallbearers are Schylar Woodruff, Trey Randolph, Rexford Barr, Ryan Armstrong, Phillip Curry, Antwan Barr, Kevin Landrum, and the Newport High School Class of 2002.
